Exam Overview
Maharashtra's power sector is split across three companies - Mahagenco (generation), Mahatransco (transmission) and Mahavitaran (distribution) - each recruiting separately. For candidates with an engineering degree, diploma or ITI, these offer some of the better pay scales in the state.
Eligibility Criteria
Assistant Engineer requires an electrical or mechanical engineering degree; Deputy Engineer a diploma; Technician an ITI in electrician or wireman; and clerical posts a degree with MS-CIT.

Exam Pattern
A 100-question online paper in 90 minutes, weighted heavily towards the technical subject (60 marks), with reasoning (15), English (10), Marathi (10) and current affairs (5).
Syllabus
The technical section covers electrical fundamentals, machines, power systems, measurement and the Indian Electricity Rules. Common sections cover Marathi, English, arithmetic, reasoning and energy-sector current affairs.
Salary & Posts
Assistant Engineer around ₹65,000-75,000, Deputy Engineer ₹50,000-58,000 and Technician ₹32,000-38,000, with provident fund, medical cover and pension benefits.
Cut Off
Typical ranges out of 100: 65-80 (Open), 60-75 (OBC), 55-70 (SC) and 45-65 (ST). Performance in the technical section decides the outcome.
How to Prepare
1. Give the technical subject 70% of your time
It carries 60 of 100 marks and comes from your own diploma or degree textbooks.
2. Memorise the electrical safety rules
The Indian Electricity Rules, safety equipment and earthing are asked yearly and commonly skipped.

Mahagenco generates power, Mahatransco transmits it at high voltage and Mahavitaran distributes it to consumers. All three are separate companies recruiting separately, and you may apply to each.
It varies by post. Electrical Assistant and Technician need an ITI or diploma in the relevant trade; Junior Engineer needs a diploma or degree in electrical or civil engineering. Non-technical posts need a degree.
For technical posts, roughly 50–60 per cent of questions come from the relevant technical subject, with the rest from general knowledge, arithmetic and language. Revising your own diploma or degree syllabus is therefore the highest-return use of your time.
